Overview
The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program is an international movement that combines policies, programs, and infrastructure improvements to encourage students in grades K–12 to walk or bike to school.
Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) SRTS program supports local efforts to create safer, more inviting routes for students.
Vision
Walking and biking in Stow will be a safe, convenient, and accessible transportation option for everyone.
Purpose of the School Travel Plan
The City of Stow’s School Travel Plan (STP) identifies policy, program, and infrastructure recommendations for:
An up-to-date STP is required to apply for many pedestrian-safety funding sources, giving Stow more opportunities to improve sidewalks, crossings, and bike facilities.
Project Background
A steering committee with representatives from the schools and multiple City departments has been updating the plan since January.
Target Schools: Echo Hills Elementary, Fishcreek Elementary, Indian Trail Elementary, Highland Elementary, Woodland Elementary, Lakeview Intermediate, Stow–Munroe Falls High School, and Holy Family School.
Walk Audits: Conducted at each school during dismissal times on various dates last spring.
Community Input: A public survey circulated last winter/spring received 48 responses, which have been incorporated into the plan.
