The City of Stow is committed to the safety and well-being of our community, including our beloved pets. After consultation with Summit County Public Health and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, we want to provide an update regarding the status of Bow Wow Beach.
Recently, geese have been found deceased within the dog park and on the lake. While ODNR does not test for bird flu, they assume these deaths are related to it. City staff has safely removed the affected wildlife from the area.
Before opening Bow Wow Beach for the season, we are conducting routine water quality testing to ensure safe conditions. Our primary concern at this time is the fecal content in the water from geese. The lake water is tested weekly for bacteria levels, and the park will not open until results confirm that the water quality is within acceptable limits.
We understand that many in the community are eager for Bow Wow Beach to reopen, and we appreciate your patience as we take the necessary steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all. We will provide updates as soon as more information is available.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
