The Parks and Recreation Department in the City of Stow is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its Summer Outdoor Basketball Program for boys and girls in grades 3 through 12. This unique program offered a fun and competitive opportunity for more than 90 youth from Stow and Munroe Falls to hone their basketball skills in a casual, game-focused environment.
There are no practices for this basketball program, just games! Participants engaged in friendly basketball games each Tuesday night from 6 - 8 PM at the courts located in Silver Springs Park. This format allowed players to enjoy the sport without the commitment of regular practices. The program welcomed boys and girls from grade 3 to grade 12, ensuring that all skill levels had a chance to participate and improve their game. A wide age range allowed children of different skill levels and experiences to play together. Older or more skilled players mentored younger or less experienced teammates, fostering a sense of community and teamwork. Each registered participant was placed on a team, and received a team t-shirt upon registration, creating a sense of unity and pride among players.
"This summer basketball program is designed to provide a recreational outlet for young athletes to enjoy the sport in a relaxed and supportive setting," said Linda Nahrstedt, Director of Stow Parks and Recreation Department. "We encouraged boys and girls of all skill levels to join us at Silver Springs Park for these exciting games and camaraderie. This type of league structure can be particularly appealing to parents and kids looking for a more casual, low-pressure way to participate in sports while still reaping the benefits of physical activity, social interaction, and teamwork.”
Registration for next year’s Summer Outdoor Basketball Program will open in early Spring. For more information about the Summer Outdoor Basketball Program, please visit StowOhio.org or contact City of Stow Parks and Recreation Department at (330) 689-5100.
