June 2023 Mayor Letter

Dear Community,

Who doesn’t have that Summer feel? Graduating seniors and many other graduates, beautiful weather, planning vacations, road construction projects, and an abundance of fun events! I want to extend my best wishes to you and your families for a wonderful summer ahead! Our values remain the same as always; spending time with friends, carrying on traditions, showing love, and visiting family.

We have an abundance of fun family events coming up during our Celebrate Stow Week, which runs from June 29 – through July 4. This year’s theme is Show Stow Spirit, #CelebrateStow! I am honored and pleased to announce that our Skip Playground Grand Opening will take place during this celebration time! Join us on July 2 for this celebratory occasion. A concert on the Green, Splash Bash event, and our traditional parade are among the many other events we are hosting. Click here for the full listing.

With that in mind, I am reaching out to ALL construction volunteers who had a hand in building the 1991 Skip Playground! If you were part of the volunteer team in 1991, and are interested in participating in the Stow Fourth of July Parade, please contact us. Click here to find out more.

I am excited to report that we continue to invest in the infrastructure in our community, making steady progress on our improvement initiatives. Ultimately, our goal is to provide the best services to our residents, and to make sure our community is sustainable. Ongoing initiatives include:

  • City Center Project – Skip Playground construction and surrounding improvements
  • Continuation of Park and Facility Improvements
  • Summer Road Improvement Project underway
  • Sidewalk construction project underway

The budgeted amounts this year for road and sidewalk improvements are:

  • Over $2.4 million in asphalt
  • Over $1.3 million in concrete
  • Over $900,000 in sidewalk maintenance, improvement and additions
  • Over $110,000 in roadway striping

The City’s annual resurfacing program delivers roadway improvements throughout our neighborhoods. The road improvement project concentrates on residential roadways throughout the city because main thoroughfares are typically covered by state grant funding with a small local match. Read more about it here. This year’s road projects and sidewalk improvements will enhance our roadways and neighborhoods in a significant way.

As we move ahead in 2023, my goals for the year ahead continue to include focusing on the needs of our residents, keeping our city at the forefront of economic and business development, building strong partnerships with our local businesses, and supporting departments that keep our neighborhoods safe, while enhancing our quality of life.

It’s not just about today – it’s about our future. Together, we are moving Stow forward! I pledge to continue my accessibility to our residents and businesses. Your ideas, input and feedback are so very beneficial in understanding the concerns of our community. I have the best interest of Stow at heart and I hope you do as well.

Sincerely,

John Pribonic

Mayor, City of Stow
